Boston Celtics Danny Ainge Is Looking At Richard Hamilton: Will Ainge Make A Move?
There is no secret that Danny Ainge has always been a fan of Richard “Rip” Hamilton of the Pistons. What is there not to like? He is a veteran player that has a wealth of playoff experience and an NBA title. He is a great shooter and can score off the drive. He has length defensively and is not afraid to get dirty in the paint. Averaging 13 points a game this year, it is clear he has plenty left in the tank. During the trade deadline last season, there were rumors that he might be packaged among others for Ray Allen in one of the many Ray trade deadline rumors. I am guessing that there was some truth to Ainge looking to gage the market for a guy he likes.
This season, for whatever insane reason, the Pistons are hell bent on moving him. They have sat him the last five games and seem to have zero intentions of using him despite the fact his rumored deal to New Jersey with Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups is dead. Could Danny Ainge swing a deal for Rip? The answer is no. Rip is making 12.5 million. The Celtics are not dealing any of their core players for Rip that would match the salaries. The Pistons would ideally like to get something in return for Rip and I am sure some playoff team will find a use for this great veteran player and give Detroit picks and the expiring contract that they crave.
However, Rip could still end up a Celtic should Detroit find no takers and cut the veteran scorer. The Celtics would then have to say good bye to Von Wafer or Delonte West. My money would be on Wafer due to West’s point guard skills. Rip would probably love to suit up with his good friend Ray Allen and the rest of the veteran Celtics. Having already made his money, the veteran minimum would not really affect him.
This scenario is a pipe dream, but anything can happen. If Detroit cannot find a taker, a buyout is likely. Boston would be the front runner to land the man due to Title aspirations, reality of the aspirations, veteran cast that he is familiar with, and a coach he respects in Doc Rivers. Stay Tuned To this situation folks. If Rip is let go, expect Danny Ainge to make a play. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!!!!!
